Eldritch Idols Guide

Find all eight Eldritch Idols in DIVE or DIE before the Flood. Locations, heartbeat clues, and collection strategy.

The Eight Idols and Your Ultimate Goal

The Rainmaker demands eight Eldritch Idols scattered across the Abyssal Pool. On the final day of the Flood Countdown, you must dive to the deepest point and offer all eight to appease the Rainmaker and prevent the Flood. Missing even one means failure.

Idols are not marked on your map initially. You discover them through exploration, heartbeat audio cues, and Map fragments stored in the Library. Each Idol requires progressively deeper access, tying Idol hunting directly to Diving Deck upgrades and Workshop equipment tiers.

Finding Idols — Heartbeats and Ruins

The first Eldritch Idol rests in a ruined building claimed by the depths in the eastern Shallows. Listen for heartbeat pulses that grow louder as you approach. This audio cue applies to all Idols — follow the sound through flooded corridors until you reach the relic chamber.

Later Idols sit in deeper biomes gated by depth tier, equipment requirements, and Blessed material crafting. Maintain a dive log noting which biomes you have fully mapped. Unexplored branches often hide the next Idol path.

Idol Hunt Scheduling Across 40 Days

Spread Idol recovery across your run rather than rushing deep biomes early. A practical pacing: one Idol during the first ten days in The Shallows, two to three during days 11–25 as new biomes unlock, and the remainder during days 26–38 with Blessed gear and extended countdown days from Worship.

Reserve days 39–40 as buffer. Use underwater altar sacrifices and settlement Worship during days 30–35 to bank extra time. Each sacrifice at a biome altar adds one day but permanently blesses that zone.

Gear Requirements by Depth

Early Idols need only a Diving Knife and basic light sources. Mid-depth Idols require Advanced Workshop items — improved oxygen tanks, stronger weapons, and cutting tools for new vine types. Deepest Idols demand Eldritch-tier equipment crafted from Blessed materials.

Check Blueprint requirements in the Workshop before committing a dive day. Arriving at an Idol chamber without the tool to exit cleanly wastes a countdown day and risks diver death.

Idol Powers and Dark Arts

Each Idol grants an active dive power and a permanent Dark Arts camp bonus that scales with Altar investment (Patch #1 fixed Dark Arts IV soft-locks on dive return). Community-verified names and effects:

  • Idol of Betrayal — Pacify nearby small enemies (120s). Dark Arts: survivors regain Sanity daily.
  • Idol of Loss — Disincarnate ghost return to surface once per dive (drops loot, halves HP/Sanity). Dark Arts: Expeditions gain success per dead survivor (capped).
  • Idol of Severance — Farewell burst of speed and slow immunity (120s). Dark Arts: divers swim faster.
  • Idol of Respite — Haven restores 35% max oxygen once per dive. Dark Arts: reduces total camp Nutrition and Morale upkeep.
  • Idol of Ruin — Ruin destroys nearby enemies/resources and briefly pacifies unkillables (120s). Dark Arts: survivors gain bonus XP per negative condition.
  • Idol of Drowning — Last Breath freezes HP/Sanity/oxygen for 45s, then kills the diver. Dark Arts: divers gain oxygen capacity.
  • Idol of Worship — Hear Our Prayer summons Boon fish. Dark Arts: stronger Worship gains and tribute XP.
  • Idol of Judgment — Tides of Time records position/status and rewinds after 10s (300s). Dark Arts: recruited survivors start at higher levels.

Rain Serpents spawn progressively as Idols are found — carry Delicacies for mandatory one-way gates. Full ability numbers live on the Idol Powers page. Staff the Altar with Dark Arts passion and read Expeditions if you lean on Idol of Loss bonuses.
