DIVE or DIE Week Eight Update — August 25, 2026
DIVE or DIE week eight — Patch #2 dive-return crash fix, Temporary Analgesia nerf, Steam Deck performance, and community mid-August guide updates.
Thirty-Five Days After Launch — Patch #2 Ships
Thirty-five days after the July 21, 2026 release, Drop Rate Studio published Patch #2 on August 13, 2026 — the first new numbered patch since Hotfix #1.5 on July 24. The studio described the change as a targeted fix for dive-return crashes that persisted on certain hardware configurations even after the July hotfix window.
Steam reception remains Very Positive with review volume past 300 and an aggregate Metacritic score of 80 for the PC release.
What Changed in Patch #2
Two changes shipped in Patch #2:
- Dive-return crash fix — Restructured map data loading during dive return sequences. Chiefs on systems with limited RAM should no longer hit the allocation ceiling that forced crashes at the post-dive settlement render.
- Temporary Analgesia nerfed — Damage reduction decreased from 50% to 30%. The condition still grants meaningful protection for injured survivors but no longer approaches near-immunity during Infirmary recovery.
No changes to Workshop equipment stat scaling, Flood Countdown mechanics, or Eldritch Idol systems.
Community Mid-August Guide Updates
Player guides through late August continued to fill routing and mechanical gaps this wiki tracks:
- Rain Serpents — confirmed one-way gate behavior, Delicacy offering requirements, and the Crimson Basin two-way pair.
- Crystallized Rain — confirmed Flesh Mass harvest timing and Blood Blade interaction.
- Idol Powers — community-verified active ability durations and Dark Arts IV scaling after the Patch #1 soft-lock fix.
- Steam Deck — verified performance notes for OLED Deck and recommended 40 FPS cap for battery life.
Steam Deck Performance — OLED Deck and Battery Tips
Community members with the Steam Deck OLED have reported stable performance at default settings through Crimson Basin and Graveyard dives. The 40 FPS cap recommendation from week three continues to hold — it extends battery life significantly during long camp-management sessions without perceptible smoothness loss on the handheld display.
Players experiencing dive-return crashes on LCD Deck should update to Patch #2 before the next deep dive.
